The 2019 Nike Doernbecher Freestyle Collection was officially unveiled over the weekend and the Jordan Brand silhouette that will be part of this year’s collection is the Air Jordan 14. The Air Jordan 14 Doernbecher was designed by 16-year-old Ethan Ellis.
Ethan’s design is a tribute to both the game he loves and the people and places that were a part of his health journey. The reptilian accents are a nod to his favorite team, the TCU Horned Frogs. The number 6 represents his heart surgeries, while the laces feature the hospitals where he received care. On the tongue, you’ll find the name of his pal and fellow patient, “Lil’ Rey.” In addition to the retail pair, there was also an alternate version seen above which takes on a white-based upper with purple/iridescent detailing. This alternate colorway was limited to two pairs, one for Ethan and one for the winner of the Doernbecher Freestyle auction that sold for $35,000. Do you like this alternate pair better than the retail version?
